Author Guidelines

Welcome to theĀ Clinical Artificial Intelligence & Informatics Journal (CAIIJ). We accept original research, review articles, short communications, and case studies that apply digital technologies to clinical practice.

1. Submission Checklist Before submitting, please ensure:

  • The submission has not been previously published.

  • The file is in Microsoft Word (.docx) format.

  • The text is double-spaced, 12-point font, with line numbers enabled (to assist reviewers).

  • All authors have read and approved the final manuscript.

2. Manuscript Structure (IMRAD Format) Manuscripts should be organized as follows:

  • Title Page (Separate File): Includes the full title, all author names, affiliations, and the corresponding author's email.

  • Blinded Manuscript (Main File): Start with the Title and Abstract. Do not include author names or affiliations in this file to ensure blind peer review.

3. The Abstract (Crucial for Indexing) You must provide a Structured Abstract (max 250 words) with the following bold headings:

  • Background: The clinical problem and the objective of the study.

  • Methods: The dataset used, the AI model/algorithm architecture, and the validation strategy.

  • Results: Key metrics (Accuracy, AUC, Sensitivity) and statistical significance.

  • Conclusion: The clinical implication of the findings.

  • Keywords: Provide 3-6 keywords (preferably MeSH terms).

4. Article Types & Word Limits

  • Original Research: up to 4,000 words (excluding references).

  • Systematic Reviews: up to 5,000 words.

  • Case Studies / Technical Notes: up to 1,500 words.

5. Specific Requirements for AI/ML Papers To ensure reproducibility, authors are strongly encouraged to:

  • Data Availability: State where the data can be accessed (e.g., "Data available on PhysioNet" or "Data not public due to patient privacy").

  • Code Availability: We strongly encourage uploading code to GitHub or a similar repository.

  • Reporting Standards: Please adhere to the TRIPOD-AI or CONSORT-AI guidelines for reporting.

6. References (Vancouver Style) CAIIJ uses the Vancouver numbering style.

  • In-text: Cite references using numbers in square brackets, e.g., "Deep learning has improved diagnostic accuracy [1, 2]."

  • Reference List: List references in numerical order of appearance.

    • Journal Example: Esteva A, Kuprel B, Novoa RA. Dermatologist-level classification of skin cancer with deep neural networks. Nature. 2017;542(7639):115-118.

    • Conference Example: Goodfellow I, et al. Generative adversarial nets. In: Advances in Neural Information Processing Systems. 2014:2672-2680.

7. Figures and Tables

  • Figures: Upload as separate files (JPEG/TIFF/PNG) with a minimum resolution of 300 dpi.

  • Tables: Embed tables in the main Word document. Do not submit tables as images.

Authors are invited to make a submission to this journal. All submissions will be assessed by an editor to determine whether they meet the aims and scope of this journal. Those considered to be a good fit will be sent for peer review before determining whether they will be accepted or rejected.

Before making a submission, authors are responsible for obtaining permission to publish any material included with the submission, such as photos, documents and datasets. All authors identified on the submission must consent to be identified as an author. Where appropriate, research should be approved by an appropriate ethics committee in accordance with the legal requirements of the study's country.

An editor may desk reject a submission if it does not meet minimum standards of quality. Before submitting, please ensure that the study design and research argument are structured and articulated properly. The title should be concise and the abstract should be able to stand on its own. This will increase the likelihood of reviewers agreeing to review the paper. When you're satisfied that your submission meets this standard, please follow the checklist below to prepare your submission.
